Intro Video by Tom Trevatt, London Photographer
These are photos of me at 18 and 19 years old, at the Royal Shakespeare Company, and also when I was at a prestigious drama school. Those years were a serious mixed bag of emotions for me. A lot of things I got wrong about myself, and a lot of things I got right. I was very, very young when I went to drama school - it meant everything to me. And I must add, most actors on the BA Acting course at Royal Bham were older than me.
As an actor I'm not a product of any specific tutor, and I'm not a product of any one method. I think lots of people spent years saying to me "this is the way to act". I don't think there's any definite way, nor has there been with any well known filmmaker or producer I have worked with in the last five years - and those projects have been a definite success. Often I do the scene, and I follow the character's thoughts and intentions. That's it. For me, telling someone "this is the definite process" restricts your freedom as an actor. I am definitely a product of the directors and the tutors that have believed in me. Those people made it clear from the very beginning that they believed in my passion and work ethic, without unnecessarily analysing or judging me. I've made it quite clear how much I appreciate them.
Friends are genuinely saying to me "Seb is it a necessity to train at drama school? Does it help?". Yes it definitely does help. And for the record, I know what it's like to be a fish out of water. Believe me. I'm not a box you can tick. I am proud of my training, and I always have been.
